The ironworks – a place to experience
The Noormarkku ironworks was established in 1806 and rose to glory in 1870 when the Ahlström family became its owners. They expanded and developed the ironworks area significantly. Today, this exceptionally large ironworks area is of special architectural value.
Head office
The head office building was designed by architects Walter Jung and Emil Fabritius. Constructed between 1914 and 1916, the building is, to a large extent, still in its original condition. It still serves as the head office of A. Ahlström Corporation, the workplace of the company's general administration, real estate management and financial administration staff.
Sahala
Sahala was built in 1866 as a Makkarakoski Sawmill office and a residential building. In the spring of 2010, it was renovated and turned into accommodation premises for Ahlström Guest Services. Sahala comprises 12 idyllic double rooms.
Isotalo
Isotalo was designed by architect Evert Lagerspetz and built in 1877–1882. In its original purpose, the house was the home of Antti Ahlström and his family. The Ahlström’s company office was for many years located at the river-side end of the building. Currently, Isotalo is in private use.
The building complex also comprises Pränni, the former laundry and sauna building designed by the same architect as the main building, and the Kymppi building, which used to accommodate the postal and telegraph service. Kymppi, as well as house number 8 that burned down in the 1950s, was later used as a residential building for Isotalo's servants.
Havulinna
Havulinna was designed by architect G. A. Lindberg from the architectural office Grahn, Hedman & Wasastjerna. This art-nouveau style villa was completed in 1901. It was originally the home of general director Walter Ahlström and his wife Lilli. Today, Havulinna is available for training and entertainment events for companies.
Villa Mairea
Villa Mairea was designed by the architect Alvar Aalto and completed in 1939. It was constructed for Walter Ahlström's daughter Maire and her husband, general director Harry Gullichsen. Villa Mairea is a work of art in itself and a legendary destination for architects from all over the world. The house is open to visitors upon advance reservation from the Mairea Foundation (tel. +358 10 888 4460 or email info@villamairea.fi).
Noormarkku Club
The Club building was built in 1907 for the fire brigade. The Ahlström corporation bought the building 12 years later and turned it into a society house. In 1924, the building underwent basic renovation to serve as a club, i.e. a place for social gatherings. Today, the Club is available for private and corporate customers upon reservation. It is an excellent venue for various parties and events. Read more about the Club.
